My Reason To Spin Fibre

I get asked why I bother to spin fibre when I can buy luxurious yarn in the yarn shop.

There are so many reasons why I like to spin, but tonight, I will pick just one reason. First, I want to spin to create lace weight yarn so I can make my first shetland lace shawl. Second, I have started knitting a shawl, and so far, everything is moving nicely.

The first step is to incorporate an eleven-stitch wide piece of lace that will be the border of the lace shawl. My current project is from the book The Magic of Shetland Lace Knitting by Elizabeth Lovick.

The yarn I’m using is not handspun, but I can guarantee you that I will be using my own handspun yarn when I start my second shawl.

I would be very interested in knowing what your first shetland lace shawl was that you completed. What yarn and needles did you use? I started out with wooden needles as I was told the wood helps stabilize the stitches better.

Also, if you missed it, there was a shop update on Friday. I listed hand-dyed Polwarth and blue-faced Leicester combed top. Go check it out.

Till next time happy spinning, and make sure you follow the NEW On A Quest For Fibre Facebook page; I post daily.
